<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing apparatus and method in a pattern printing apparatus to a flexible and thin printing base material like a long film base material, wherein dimensional stability is secured causing no twist nor expansion in the printing base material in carrying the base material, and by preventing a flaw on a non-printing face, reducing a bad effect on the printing face due to attached foreign matter on the non-printing face, printing without a pattern defect onto the flexible and thin printing base material, with high uniformity in the face, is provided. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Use of a rear face base material formed with a laminated cushion layers on the long film base material and carrying of the printing base material with the rear face base material stuck thereon, increase a carrying property of the printing base material, suppress distortion of the printing base material, and reduce a bad effect on pattern forming due to pressing by the printing apparatus.
