<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ring laser device for generating laser in a UV or visible light region by directly exciting a upper level. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The ring laser device uses an exciting light source and a mirror or a light waveguide to form a closed circular light path. The circular light path includes a light ring circuit which has a laser medium for emitting light with exciting light, an exciting light coupling means for introducing the exciting light from the outside into the circular light path, and a light branching means for outputting the part of light which is created in the circular light path by the light emission of the laser medium to the outside of the circular light path. The exciting light source is a gallium nitride semiconductor light source whose exciting light has a wavelength of 340-500 nm, and the laser medium is fluoride glass or a fluoride crystal to which at least one of Pr<SP>3</SP>, Er<SP>3+</SP>, Ho<SP>3+</SP>, Sm<SP>3+</SP>, Tm<SP>3+</SP>, Dy<SP>3+</SP>, Eu<SP>3+</SP>, Tb<SP>3+</SP>, and Nd<SP>3+</SP>is added.
