<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems that a drive motor in a vacuum cleaner, which allows the rotary shaft of an electrically powered cord reel for winding up a power cord to be directly connected, makes it difficult to pull out the power cord due to a large load imposed by the drive motor, thereby worsening its usability, and the drive motor serving as a power generator may damage the electrically connected circuit. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A rotary shaft of a cord reel 13 is connected to the output shaft of a drive motor 17 through an electromagnetic clutch 16. When the plug of a power cord 3 is not inserted in an outlet, the electromagnetic clutch 16 remains OFF, leaving the power untransmitted from the motor's output shaft.
