PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measuring instrument excellent in design of a dial plate without impairing the visibility of an indication section. SOLUTION: A speed meter 11 includes: an indicator 51 driven in response to a vehicle speed; and the dial plate 20 having a scale section 21a indicated by the indicator 51 and a number section 21b on an indication surface 23. A light source 42 is provided in back of the dial plate 20 in the indication direction. A light guide 60 is inserted into a penetration hole 22 in the dial plate 20, and forwardly guides a light emitted from the light source 42 in the indication direction of the dial plate 20. A reflector 52 is provided in front of the light guide 60 in the indication direction, reflects the light emitted from an exit section 62 in the light guide 60, and irradiates a portion of the indication surface 23 in the dial plate 20 with the light. A light shielding section is disposed among the scale section 21a, the number section 21b, the light guide 60 and the reflector 52, and includes a front end in the indication direction which is positioned in front of the reflector 52 and the light guide 60 in the indication direction.
