<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader or the like capable of preventing forgetting to take a document as much as possible. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In an MFP(Multifunction Peripheral)-side scan process, when a start operation by a user or a read instruction from a PC is input (S105 or S110: YES), an image on a document mounted on a document stand is scanned to generate image data (S120). When it is detected that a document stand cover is moved from a closed state to an opened state, the document is regarded as having been removed from the document stand (S145: YES), and the image data are output to the PC (S160). Thereby, when the MFP side forgets to take a document, the PC side is brought into a state where application work such as work related to, for instance, edition or storage of image data can not be carried out.
