1,078,707. Feednig sheets. BUNDESDRUCKEREI. Sept. 21, 1965 [Sept. 21, 1964], No. 40121/65. Heading B6B. In apparatus for separating sheets sequentially from the top of a pile. a pile of printed and interleaving sheets is lifted by means of chain-operated elevators (2, 3, Fig. 1), until the topmost sheet is adjacent two pneumatic lifting rods 4 and 5 arranged on opposite sides of the pile. The surface of the topmost sheet is scanned by photo-electric cells 6 and 7, and the suction to one of the lifting rods is controlled according to whether the topmost sheet is a printed or interleaving sheet. Two springs 8 which engage into lateral recesses of the interleaving sheet on the side towards which the same is pulled off, prevent a printed sheet from being lifted at the same time. Pile tables.-The chain elevators (2 and 3, Fig. 1) are independently driven by separate motors, and each motor is controlled by a scanner 9 and 10 respectively, so that level gaps between the stack edges and the suction rods can be accurately maintained.
