A clamping device for a rotary index device for machine tool in which stabilized positioning performance is sustained while simplifying the structure especially in a normal clamp type clamping device. In the rotary index device (1) for machine tool where the index position of a circular table (16) is held by normally clamping a clamp disc (11) with clamp means (6) and the circular table (16) is unclamped by unclamp means (13) at the time of indexing operation the clamp means (6) includes a fixing part (7) fixed to the housing (3) of the rotary index device (1) for machine tool, a resiliently deformable supporting part (8) having one end bonded to the fixing part (7) and the other end to which a press part (9) having a face that opposes the clamp disc (11) is bonded, and energizing means (10) for normally energizing the supporting part (8) to the clamp disc (11) side to bring about a state where the clamp disc (11) is pressed by the press part(9).
