PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute image decoding at high speed by utilizing a plurality of threads.

SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus obtains the number of simultaneously executable threads. Code information of code data is obtained so as to determine the number of color elements (components) of the code data to be decoded from the obtained code information and the decoding conditions. A thread dividing method for decoding is determined from the determined number of color elements and the number of simultaneously executable threads. Image decoding is executed by dividing image decoding into a plurality of threads in accordance with the thread dividing method.
