PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus technology enabling formation of a high quality image over a long term by forming a toner pattern on a non-image region of an image carrier (photoreceptor) without increase of the toner use amount. SOLUTION: The color image forming apparatus includes a recovered toner carrier for supporting a toner recovered while being cleaned in a plurality of image forming parts, and a recovered toner transfer means for transferring the recovered toner on the recovered toner carrier onto an intermediate transfer member or a photoreceptor. A predetermined amount of the recovered toner is supplied to a non-image part of the photoreceptors of the plurality of the image forming parts and the surface of the photoreceptors is polished optionally.
