PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent erroneous detection caused by sudden rise of a water level, overflow of water caused by excess water, or damage of a water tank caused by deficiency of water, by detecting the water level even during rice-cooking operation. SOLUTION: This water level detection device is equipped with the water tank 7 for storing water; a water level detection means having a light emitting means 18 for blinking and emitting light and a light receiving means 19 for transmitting a signal based on intensity of received light, for detecting existence of water at a prescribed position in the water tank 7; and a determination means for determining existence of water based on a mean value or a moving mean value acquired by smoothing output from the light receiving means 19.
