<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface hardening method of a wood material capable of impregnating a resin liquid to a depth of 1 mm or more from the surface of the wood material, being mass-produced with a comparative simple device, and having a stable dimension even after hardening treatment. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The surface hardening method includes a preheating step 100 for preheating the wood material 1 at 70°C, an immersion step 200 for immersing one surface of the wood material 1 in a thermosetting resin 2 heated at 70°C under normal atmosphere for a predetermined time, a cooling step 300 for cooling the wood material 1 impregnated in the thermosetting resin 2, and impregnating the thermosetting resin 2 in an area of 1 mm depth from the surface of the wood material 1, a removal step 400 for removing an excess of thermosetting resin 2 sticking to the surface of the wood material 1, a surface solidification step 500 for solidifying the thermosetting resin 2 sticking to the surface of the wood material 1 with an ultraviolet irradiation device, and a hot-pressing step 600 for hardening the thermosetting resin 2 impregnated in the wood material 1 with a hot press 4.
