<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for which proper maintenance work is always performed without being affected by the degradation with the lapse of time of the apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is configured such that the maintenance work is performed according to a user mode or a serviceman mode. An image forming part including an image forming station or the like prints an image in accordance with image data on recording paper, and a main CPU calculates a service period of the apparatus that is a value being an index showing the degradation with the lapse of time (S103), and decides whether the calculated service period of the apparatus reaches one year that is a predetermined threshold (S104).
