<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing an electrochemical display element having superior stability. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the electrochemical display element including an electrolyte layer between a pair of facing substrates is provided. The electrolyte layer is composed of at least two components having difference in the wettability to the facing substrates, adapted to miscible or compatible with each other to be one electrolyte layer, at least a part of a component A having the highest wettability to the substrate from among the electrolyte layer components is given to at least one of the facing substrates, and a component B having the lowest wettability to the facing substrates is then given to the other.
