<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide heat resistant mortar remarkably improving workability in the construction of a hearth, a retaining wall or the like of a coke furnace and attaining long term heat resistance of the furnace. <P>SOLUTION: The heat resistant mortar used for the construction of a furnace body formed by piling up refractory 7 for a furnace body and refractory 3 formed around the furnace body and provided between the furnace body and concrete 1 holding the furnace body contains ≥55 mass% and ≤75 mass% aggregate containing at least one of silica and alumina as essential ingredients and the balance an alumina cement-based binder.
