The starter has a plug pinion connection (1) comprising a pinion (2) mountable on a pinion shaft (4) under formation of a combing gear teeth pair against spring force. A safety device i.e. bayonet lock, secures an axial seat of the pinion on the pinion shaft in a securing position. The safety device is integrated in the gear teeth pair. An inner tooth (6) of the pinion comprises a pinion tooth series (7) with a pinion partition, where the pinion tooth series extends in an axial direction. The pinion shaft comprises a rear-cut-like stopper (14).
