A temperature control system for an incubator 4 comprises a thermostat 16 responsive to the temperature of the air in the incubator, a thermistor 20 responsive to the body temperature of the occupant of the incubator and a second thermostat 23 all connected in series between a current source 13, 14 and an electric heating element 7 in the incubator, the arrangement functioning to maintain a desired body temperature of the occupant. With the thermostat 16 set at its maximum setting by means of a control knob 26 an associated cam 28 operates a microswitch 18 to connect the thermostat 16 to thermistor 20. Thus after placing an infant in the incubator 4 the initial control of current to the heater 7 is exercised in a cyclic manner by the thermostat 16 to cause a rapid increase in the temperature inside the incubator, the resultant rise in the body temperature of the infant thereafter causing the thermistor 20 to assume control of the heating current. Should the control knob 26 be operated to set the thermostat 16 below its maximum setting cam 28 operates the microswitch 18 to connect the thermostat 16 to the by-pass 21, then the thermistor 20 is removed from the control of the heating current. Thermostat 23 is set so as to disconnect the heater 7 from the supply should the air temperature in the incubator rise about a desired limiting value.
