Disclosed is an electric fence energiser. The energiser includes a pulse generator and a control circuit. The pulse generator produces a bi-polar pulse train and the control circuit applies a mono-polar pulse, or a bi-polar pulse, derived from the pulse train to the fence in response to a load condition on the fence.
