A compressed image transmitting method using an MPEG-4 BIFS stream is disclosed. A CompressedPixelTexture node is newly defined and added to the existing syntax of MPEG-4 BIFS. A compressed image is embedded in the BIFS stream using the CompressedPixelTexture node and transmitted, thereby reducing the frequency of use of object descriptor information and enhancing effectiveness of compressed image transmission. Accordingly, even low-capacity terminals lacking available resources such as a cellular phone, personal digital assistant and mobile terminal can be used to provide rich media services without severe performance limitation, images can be represented in BIFS contents without use of additional object descriptor information, and the transport system transmitting the BIFS contents does not have to establish an additional logical channel during multiplexing. |
