A refuse chute for a building includes a plurality of stacked and end-to-end secured tubular sections 12 forming an enclosed refuse disposal shaft 10. At least some of the sections have openings 18 in a side wall of the section and an associated baffle/refuse ramp 20 extending from the side wall at the opening into the disposal shaft and preferably inclined so that there is an obtuse angle between the baffle and the opening.
