PURPOSE: An LCD device and an image display method thereof are provided to prevent a non-uniformity of the end part of a screen by controlling the radiation luminance of a backlight according to the brightness of an image signal by partitioning a backlight into a plurality of regions. CONSTITUTION: An LCD panel(34) displays a video signal. A backlight device(35) is arranged in the rear end of the LCD panel and is divided into a plurality of regions. The backlight device includes a light source radiating light into a plurality of regions in the LCD panel. A histogram detection part detects the histogram of a gradation for an image signal of each region. An image gain operation unit(12) calculates a gain for controlling the radiation luminance each region of the backlight device. A radiation luminance calculation unit(22) controls luminance for a plurality of regions of the backlight device.
