PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a downward bucket type steam trap eliminating valve leak by enhancing valve close force. SOLUTION: An inlet 5, a valve chamber 4 and an outlet 14 are formed on a valve casing comprising a body 1 and a cover 3. A valve port 15 providing communication between the valve chamber 4 and the outlet 14 is formed at an upper part of the valve chamber 4. A downward bucket 9 provided with an introduction opening 11 at a lower part and an air releasing hole 10 at an upper part is stored in the valve chamber 4. The valve port 15 is opened and closed by a valve element 18 connected to the downward bucket 9 through a lever 17. The air releasing hole 10 of the downward bucket 9 is positioned right below the valve element 18 opening and closing the valve port 15. A communication hole 21 opening to a side surface from as lower surface of the valve element 18 is formed. When the valve element 18 closes the valve port 15, an opening end of the air releasing hole 10 of the downward bucket 9 abuts on a lower end of the valve element 18, the valve element 18 is pressed against the valve port 15, and gas flowing out through the communication hole 21 from the air releasing hole 10 impinges on the valve element 18 and acts on the valve element 18 as valve closing force.
