Provided is a method for manufacturing an imaging element, wherein an imaging element having high processing accuracy can be easily manufactured by saving cost and time.  A blade section (2) wherein a plurality of protruding punching blades (22), each of which has two side surfaces (22a, 22b) corresponding to two mirror surfaces (31a, 31b) of a fine hole (31) to be formed on a substrate (3), are arranged on a metal block (21) is brought down to the substrate (3) by a lift section (13), while vibrating the blade section by means of an ultrasonic oscillation section (12), and the blade section is brought into contact with the substrate with pressure.  Then, the substrate (3) is punched by the punching blade (22).
