<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a composition for suppressing release of acetaldehyde and formaldehyde from tanned and finished leather products. <P>SOLUTION: There is provided an aqueous flesh coating composition comprising one or more aqueous acid-functional acrylic or vinyl copolymer of 0.03-1.0 equivalent based on equivalents of carboxylic acid in the polymer and of one or more active compound selected from aminoguanidine, semicarbazide, dihydrazine, guanamine, hydrazine and a salt thereof. Further, a method of applying the coating composition to a leather crust or to a tanned leather, and a fresh coated leather or a coated leather crust produced thereby, are also provided. The produced leather crust and tanned leather, for example fresh-coated or finished leather, emit greatly reduced amounts of aldehydes over time and are especially valuable in removing aldehydes from perforated leather for automotive use. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
