<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent instable positional precision of a carriage caused by a fluctuation of a tensile force due to resonance of a space belt in a printer that performs printing while moving the carriage in right and left directions. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This printer performs the printing while moving, in the right and left directions, the carriage 2 fixed to the space belt 3 that is tensed by an idle pulley 4 and a drive pulley 5. An idle pulley holder lever section 10 that generates a predetermined friction load on the main frame of the printer is provided on an idle pulley holder 8 for urging the space belt 3 toward the opposite side of the drive pulley 5 by means of a spring 7 engaged with a part of the main frame.
