KNEE ORTHOTIC AND JOINT COMPONENT SET FOR A KNEE ORTHOTIC

The joint component set for a knee orthotic comprises a medial leg joint component and an outer leg joint component. The medial leg joint component comprises a roughly band-shaped thigh component and a lower leg component. A rack is provided on one and a gear on the other, and the thigh component and lower leg component are connected by the rack and gear to be freely rotatable. When the components rotate in a direction whereby the angle between the thigh component and the lower leg component is widened, the lower leg component moves downward. The outer leg joint component comprises a roughly band-shaped thigh component and a lower leg component. A rack is provided on one and a gear on the other, and the thigh component and lower leg component are connected by the rack and gear to be freely rotatable. When the components rotate in a direction whereby the angle between the thigh component and lower leg component is widened, the lower leg component moves upward. The position of the center of rotation of the tibia during ambulation is corrected by the diameters of the medial leg joint component gear and the lateral leg joint component gear being different.
