PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device of an in-plane switching mode, whose viewing angle can be widened and display quality is excellent. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal display panel LPN which holds a liquid crystal layer LQ between an array substrate AR and a counter substrate CT and which includes a display area comprising pixels disposed in a matrix shape. The array substrate AR includes a bottom gate type switching element W disposed to each pixel, a first insulating film 24 covering the switching element, a first electrode E1 disposed over the entire display area on the first insulating film, a second insulating film 26 covering the first electrode, and a second electrode E2 disposed to each pixel on the second insulating film, connected to the switching element and having a slit SL formed facing the first electrode.
