PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an aldol condensation compound in high efficiency even at normal temperature without using a metal compound catalyst and a non-polar organic solvent. SOLUTION: The method for producing the aldol condensation compound comprises a step of condensing an aldehyde compound used as a raw material in the presence of a catalyst without using a solvent or in an aqueous solvent; provided that the method uses a catalyst comprising a basic amino acid expressed by formula (1) (X is methylene, ethylene, trimethylene, tetramethylene or group obtained by substituting any -CH<SB>2</SB>- group in the groups with -O- or -S-) or its salt; the aldehyde compound used as the raw material has a carbon number of≥6; and concentrations of the catalyst and the aldehyde compound in a reaction liquid are adjusted in such a manner that a concentration of a Schiff base formed from the catalyst and the aldehyde compound becomes a critical micelle concentration or above.
