<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a suture thread consisting of biocompatible thermoplastic resin, despite fine fibers, having a mechanical strength and flexibility being practical after a sterilization process and having a favorable handling property; and a method of manufacturing the same. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This suture thread is a biocompatible suture thread composed of polylactic acid, consists of a fine thread bundle with an average single thread diameter of 10-1000 nm, and preferably has a tensile strength of 1.5 cN/detex or more and a knot strength of 1.5-6.0 cN/detex, and preferably the polylactic acid forms a stereocomplex.
