In making rye flakes, rye grains, preferably uniform, graded grains, are cleaned to remove impurities and dust, steamed in live steam, e.g. at a pressure between 1 1/2 and 4 kg. cm2 and a temperature between 100 and 300 DEG C., and pressed, e.g. in a roller mill, to form flakes, which are dried until they contain less than 20%, e.g. 10%, by weight, of water. Cleaning may be effected by lightly grinding or polishing the grains, winnowing them in air, and finally washing them with water, e.g. at ambient temperature. |
