The internal combustion engine has a cylinder, which is operated when fuel is supplied. Another cylinder is operated without a separate supply of the fuel. An overflow connection (20) is formed between the cylinders and is fitted with blocking units (22,23), which are maintained in an open position during a power stroke of the former cylinder. The pistons (10,11,12) in the cylinders move in a synchronous manner in relation to a top and bottom dead centers. A dead volume (17) of the latter cylinder is smaller than the dead volumes (15,16) of the former cylinder.
|
