<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent excessive correction and effect optimum tone correction within a range that the impression of an image is not changed too much before and after tone correction. <P>SOLUTION: A first correcting amount producing unit 15 produces a correcting amount improvement of viewability in a dark space region, a second correcting amount producing unit 16 produces a correcting amount for suppression of tone crushing in a highlight region, a third correcting amount producing unit 17 produces a correcting amount for preventing the impression of the image from being changed too much before and after the correction, and a correcting amount determining unit 18 determines the final correcting amount Δ.
