<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable turbocharger inhibiting drive force of an opening adjustment mechanism so as not to damage internal components during opening adjustment. <P>SOLUTION: In the variable turbocharger provided with a hydraulic servo drive device 40 driving a freely-adjustable nozzle opening slide mechanism, the hydraulic servo drive device 40 includes a servo piston 41 transmitting drive force to the slide mechanism, and springs 30, 80 energizing the servo piston 41 to a side increasing nozzle opening. The springs 30, 80 has energizing force smaller than preset first energizing force energizing the servo piston 41 while nozzle opening reaches a state close to a fully closed state from a fully opened state and has energizing force larger than preset second energizing force energizing the servo piston 41 while nozzle opening reaches the fully closed state from the state close to the fully closed state.
