PURPOSE: A control device and method for a tongs crane are provided to prevent power loss resulting from the surplus operation of the tongs crane and minimize the abrasion of parts. CONSTITUTION: A control device for a tongs crane comprises a case(210), a push block(220), a pair of proximity sensors(271,272), a return block, a pinion, a sleeve, and a controller. The case is installed in a housing(158) of a tong key(150) and includes first and second guide bars(211,212) inside. The push block forms a retaining protrusion and a locking dog. The proximity sensors sense the operating position of the locking dog. The return block with a rack gear on one side contacts the leading end of the push block. The pinion engages with the rack gear. A partial gear meshed with the pinion and a ratchet interfering with the retaining protrusion are formed on the outer side of the sleeve, and a key groove in which a rod pin of the tong key is inserted is formed on the inner side of the sleeve. The controller raises and lowers the tongs crane according to a signal from the proximity sensors. |
