A transfer substrate is provided with a photothermal conversion layer and a transfer layer formed in this order on a base substrate. The transfer layer is formed of an organic material selected from the group including a first organic material, which has a weight decrease initiation temperature (T<SUB>sub</SUB>) of lower than 500° C. and sublimates under atmospheric pressure, and a second organic material, which has a weight decrease initiation temperature (T<SUB>sub</SUB>) of lower than 500° C. and satisfies the following inequality: T<SUB>sub</SUB>-T<SUB>m</SUB><200° C. (T<SUB>sub</SUB>: the weight decrease initiation temperature of the second organic material, and T<SUB>m</SUB>: a melting point of the second organic material). Also disclosed is a process for fabricating organic electroluminescent devices by using the transfer substrate.
