PURPOSE: A damping force variable shock absorber is provided to mount a retainer housing on a separator tube without a separate units. CONSTITUTION: A damping force variable shock absorber comprises an O-ring assembly(131), a declined part(133), and a protrusion. The O-ring assembly has an o-ring insert groove. A through hole connects a retainer housing and the oil assembly. The declined part is located between the rest separator tube(130) excepting the O-ring assembly. The declined part inclines from the separator tube towards an inner pipe(20). The protrusion is integrally formed on the edge of the through hole of the separator tube.
