PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for testing autonomous physical strength, which permits autonomous physical strength from viewpoints according to daily activities of a subject of measurement such as an elderly person to be accurately tested and can effectively support the subject in building up the health; and to provide an autonomous physical strength testing device. SOLUTION: A chair, a mat, and a power ring are arranged outside the three sides of a square area in a plane view. The elderly person rises from a lying posture on the mat, sits on the chair, stands up from the chair, picks the power ring to raise the ring above the head. The time required for the actions is measured and compared with an evaluation criterion table obtained by experiments to test the subject's autonomous physical strength relating to posture changes.
