PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing lactic acid, which includes a process for recovering an aqueous solution containing lactic acid derived from fermentation and culture of microorganisms and removing impurities such as lactic acid, and formic acid. SOLUTION: The method for producing lactic acid by separating lactic acid produced in a culture solution by fermentation and culture of microorganisms includes a process for passing the culture solution through a reverse osmosis membrane having a functional layer being a polyamide under an operation pressure of≥1 MPa and≤8 MPa, removing organic acids except lactic acid in the culture solution to a permeate and recovering an aqueous solution containing the lactic acid from a non-permeate.
