In order to store prespecified geometric objects on a storage medium (20), a distance (DIST) is determined from each of the prespecified geometric objects to at least one other of the prespecified geometric objects. The distance (DIST) is representative of a similarity of the corresponding prespecified geometric objects. The prespecified geometric objects are grouped together, depending on the distances (DIST) of the prespecified geometric objects from one another, into groups (GRP) such that the prespecified geometric objects are more similar with respect to prespecified geometric objects of the same group (GRP) than with respect to prespecified geometric objects of the other groups (GRP). For each group (GRP), a representative (REP) is ascertained, depending on the prespecified geometric objects within the groups (GRP), which representative meets a quality criterion with respect to its similarity to the prespecified geometric objects of the corresponding group, which quality criterion depends on the distances (DIST) of the representative (REP) from the individual prespecified geometric objects of the corresponding group (GRP). The representatives (REP) of all the groups (GRP) are stored. In a representative fashion for the prespecified geometric objects, only one identification (ID) of the prespecified geometric object an indication of the corresponding representative (REP) of the prespecified geometric object and values, by means of which a size and position of the corresponding representative (REP) is prespecified, is stored for each of the prespecified geometric objects, depending on the size and the position of the corresponding prespecified geometric objects.
