PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic shock absorber capable of reducing the overall length and the outer diameter while securing the stroke length. SOLUTION: The hydraulic shock absorber D includes a shock absorber body 1 comprising a cylinder 2, a piston 3 which is movably inserted into the inside of the cylinder 2 to divide the inside of the cylinder 2 into two working chambers R1 and R2, and a rod 4 movably inserted into the cylinder 2 and connected to the piston 3, an air spring 5 interposed between the cylinder 2 and the rod 4 of the shock absorber body 1, and a hollow part 4a provided in the rod 4 of the shock absorber body 1. In the hollow part 4a, there is provided a liquid chamber L communicating with the working chamber R2 of the lower side in Fig.1, and a gas chamber G communicating with the inside of an air spring 5.
