PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly durable die casting coated die that can markedly suppress the occurrence of seizure or heat check even under a use environment with extremely small amount of release agent or free of release agent, and to provide a method of manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The die casting coated die is provided which is obtained by coating the surface of a die casting die made of tool steel as the base material with a coating film, wherein the coating film is an oxide coating film comprising a corundum structure. The method of manufacturing the die casting coated die is also provided for coating the surface of the die casting die made of tool steel as the base material with the oxide coating film comprising the corundum structure by a physical vapor deposition method using a Cr target and an AlCr alloy target. In the method, after the surface of the base material is coated with an A layer of Cr oxide, it is alternately coated with a B layer of Al and Cr oxide. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
