PURPOSE: A shock-absorbing device for a steering column is provided to protect a driver when vehicle collisions by reducing a big contractile shock. CONSTITUTION: A shock-absorbing device for a steering column comprises outer and inner tubes(4,3) of a steering column, a curling plate(7), and a controller. When shock is applied to the outer and inner tubes, the outer tube and the inner tube are each other coupled to generate frictional force. When the shock is applied to the curling plate, the curling plate absorbs the shock. The controller connects or separates the curling plate from the steering column.
