<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel supply system for an internal combustion engine, improving accuracy for estimating the remaining amount of fuel. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In a fuel supply mechanism 20 provided with a main fuel tank 22 and an auxiliary fuel tank 27, when a liquid level of fuel in the main fuel tank 22 is stabilized, the estimated remaining amount calculated based on the detection value of a sender gauge 33 is regarded as a reference remaining amount value, and a fuel remaining amount indicated value at each time is fixed based on the reference remaining amount value and the amount of fuel injected by a fuel injection valve 21. When the liquid level of fuel in the main fuel tank 22 is newly stabilized, a first estimation process and a second estimation process are performed. The first estimation process updates the estimated remaining amount as the reference remaining amount value when the estimated remaining amount based on the detection value of the sender gauge 33 at the time is equal to or less than the latest reference remaining amount value, and the second estimation process updates the reference remaining amount value even if the estimated remaining amount value calculated when the present updating condition is satisfied exceeds the latest reference remaining amount value when excess auxiliary fuel supplied from the auxiliary fuel tank 27 to the fuel injection valve 21 is returned to the main fuel tank 22.
