<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which has a width of a frame portion narrower than those of conventional products and has high light emission efficiency and low power consumption. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes: a liquid crystal panel 101; a gate COF (Chip On Film) mounted on a front surface of the liquid crystal panel; a side edge-type backlight including light-emitting diodes disposed on right and left side surfaces of the liquid crystal panel; and a cover 107 and a frame 103 which hold the liquid crystal panel and the backlight. The frame is provided in a position corresponding to the gate COF and has an opening 103g to which the gate COF 101a is inserted, and a lid 103a to cover the gate COF inserted to the opening is connected to the frame so that it can be opened and closed.
