PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a user-friendly rice cooker by switching types of scheduling functions when a battery of a backup means is consumed. SOLUTION: The rice cooker includes a timer means 32 for setting a scheduling time of completion of rice cooking; a storage 36 for storing setting contents of a timer means 33 for setting the scheduling period of the completion of rice cooking, a DC power source 38 for supplying to a control means direct current converted from commercial power source, and a determining means 40 of a residual quantity for determining whether a residual quantity of power of the backup means 39 for retaining memory contents of the storage is sufficient for maintaining the memory contents of the storage when the commercial power is not supplied. If the determining means for residual quantity determines that the residual quantity of power of the backup means is not sufficient for retaining the memory contents, the control means 31 disables the operation of the timer means for setting scheduling time and enables operation of the timer means for setting scheduling period.
