PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition excellent in low heat generation and wear resistance. SOLUTION: The surface-treated inorganic oxide is composed of: a mercaptosilane compound expressed by formula (1): (R<SP>1</SP>)<SB>m</SB>(R<SP>2</SP>)<SB>n</SB>Si-R<SP>3</SP>-S-R<SP>4</SP>coupled to hydroxy groups on a particle surface; and a fatty acid coupled through an aminosilane compound expressed by formula (2): (R<SP>5</SP>)<SB>p</SB>(R<SP>6</SP>)<SB>q</SB>Si-R<SP>7</SP>or the mercaptosilane compound to hydroxy groups on the particle surface. In the formula (1), R<SP>1</SP>represents an alkoxy group; R<SP>2</SP>represents an alkyl group, an alkenyl group or the like; R<SP>3</SP>represents an alkylene group; R<SP>4</SP>represents a hydrogen atom or an acyl group; and m ranges from 1 to 3, satisfying m+n=3. In the formula (2), R<SP>5</SP>represent an alkoxy group; R<SP>6</SP>represents an alkyl group, an alkenyl group or the like; R<SP>7</SP>represents -R<SP>8</SP>-SH or -R<SP>9</SP>-(NH-R<SP>10</SP>)<SB>r</SB>-NH<SB>2</SB>; and p ranges from 1 to 3, satisfying p+q=3.
