<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a BLDC motor driven fuel pump that does not limit a fuel flow flowing through a motor while maintaining efficiency of the motor. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel pump 40 for an internal combustion engine has a housing 42 housing a pump and the motor. The motor is arranged to drive the pump so as to pump fuel through the housing. The motor includes a wound stator 12 having a plurality of inwardly directed teeth 14, 15 about which a stator winding 20 is wound, and a radially outer surface in contact with an inner surface of the housing. One or more pathways 52 are formed between the inner surface of the housing and the outer surface of the stator 12 for the flow of fuel therethrough. Each pathway 52 is formed by an axially extending recess 28 formed in the outer surface of the stator 12 and aligned with a selected tooth 15 of the stator 12. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
