A method of continuously marking extruded strands such as wire,threads &c.,by means of thin continuous jets of colour is characterized in that one or more colour jets under pressure is or are caused to oscillate in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the cable by means of electric oscillators to which spraying nozzles are fastened. By spacing the jet nozzle to one or other side of the strand axis the spacing of the markings can be varied. In Fig. 3 two oscillating armatures 1 and 1a with appertaining spraying nozzles 2 and 2a are arranged on opposite sides of a. cable 4 to be marked and are spaced apart by a distance such that the marking from nozzle 2 on one side exactly coincides with the marking from nozzle 2a on the other side. This distance is dependent . on the frequency of oscillation of the nozzle and the speed of cable 4, nozzle 2 being adjustable by means represented at 6, 5 and 5a are catching devices for the surplus colouring medium. A stroboscope 7 may be used to assist in the adjustment of the spacing of the two nozzles. |
