The heating cartridge (9) has air treatment chambers (6-8), and a heat-generating material (2) provided in an interior of one of the air treatment chambers (7). The heat-generating material is granular potassium superoxide. Temperature of 40 to 60 degrees Celsius is produced during breathing within a period of 5 to 40 minutes, where only inhaled surrounding air flows through the heating cartridge. An independent claim is also included for a method for heating breathable air in a training breathing apparatus.
