A device for determining the spatial position of a teat 21 of an animal. Said device is provided with a first transmitter element 13 for emitting a first ray or beam of rays 27 in a first sub-area A of the space, and with a second transmitter element 14 differing from the first transmitter element 13 for emitting a second ray or beam of rays 27' in a second sub-area B of the space. The first sub-area A and the second sub-area B constitute together the space. A first receiver element 18 is arranged to receive a reflection of the first ray or beam of rays 27. A second receiver element 17 differing from the first receiver element is arranged to receive a reflection of the second ray or beam of rays 27'. A single mirror 3 rotatable about an axis of rotation 4 directs the ray or beam of rays emanating from each transmitter element in a relevant plane of the relevant sub-area of the space and/or directs a ray or beam of rays reflected from the relevant sub-area to the relevant receiver element. A means directs the ray or beam of rays emanating from each transmitter element in at least two spaced-apart relevant position determination surfaces of the relevant sub-area of the space.
