The invention concerns a wood composite (1) usable as floor covering or staircase and comprising a central core made of a piece of solid wood (3) on the upper and lower surfaces of which are laminated covering layers (5, 7) made of relatively thin wooden slats. In order to make this composite resistant to the prevailing degree of humidity, the central core consists of a piece of wood provided with parallel rectilinear cavities (13) staggered on both the upper and lower surfaces. Moreover, to enable said wood composite to attenuate sounds and shocks, soudproofing layers are provided between the central core and the covering layers, said soundproofing layers each consisting of either a thin rubbery coat (15, 17) or a thick adhesive coat arranged in the recessed U- or V-shaped grooves at the very upper and lower surfaces of the central core. |
